About the journal
The Internet journal Západočeské entomologické listy was established by Západočeská pobočka České společnosti entomologické (West Bohemian Section of the Czech Entomological Society) in 2010. The reason for its foundation was an absence of a locally specialized periodical that would give regional entomologists an opportunity to present the results of their work, whether field surveys or study-achieved. The fact that it was a good aim is also evidenced by a short statistics – by the middle of 2018, that is eight and a half years, more than 100 original works by altogether 64 authors, amateur and professional entomologists, reviewed by more than a hundred specialists, were published in the journal.
In the beginning, the journal was intended as a purely regional periodical focusing only on faunistics and bionomy of insect concerning the former West Bohemian region (now Plzeňský and Karlovarský regions). However, its geographical scope has gradually grown to the whole of the Czech Republic and Slovakia but the professional focus remained the same. The journal does not have any ambition to publish articles on insect taxonomy or systematics, even in a long-term horizon.
The quality of articles is supervised by a five-member editorial board, which ensures a fast editorial process from receiving up of the manuscript to the final publishing. The processing of shorter articles does not last for more than several weeks, and more extensive works are processed within months. Each paper is subjected to two independent reviews. As an Internet journal, the magazine offers open and free access to its content to the widest circle of readers. Neither authors of the articles have to pay any fees. It is an ideal space for both amateur and professional entomologists who are interested in sharing their entomological knowledge without undue delay. The works are published exclusively in Czech or Slovak language, the abstracts in one of the congress languages are provided for foreign readers.
